Rain and flooding.....please pray

Posted by hopevillage on January 23, 2012 at 8:10 AM

Over the last 5 days we have had an unbelievable amount of rain. The river has steadily risen behind our house and the whole site is very muddy. On Sunday evening the rain continued and had devastating effects for many many families in the villages that surround us.

One village alone, which is close to us and to the river was flooded and 20 families lost not only their houses but most of what they owned. Some houses fell down completely and some lost a wall or a roof.  We went to the village to have a look and the chief took us around.  Many houses had collapsed completely, he told us that out of the 49 houses that are in his village 38 of them have been affected.

The chief was helping get families to safety during the night and was chased by a crocodile. There have been more than one crocodile spotted and they are so dangerous, please pray that nobody gets attacked by one. The families are now camping out in Pastor Ganizani's church and in the chiefs home.

The most immediate need that they have is for pit latrines.  The chief is worried that the children of the village are in danger of water born diseases due to many of the pit latrines that were at peoples houses being destroyed.

We certainly can't help everyone but our hearts go out to this one particular village, if you are able to help in any way please get in touch with us as soon as possible. They have lost everything, we would like to offer them hope.
